Respiratory outbreak on Birch Street
Documents
We have a respiratory outbreak on the Birch Street. Symptoms include sore throat, productive cough, nasal discharge and fever. We've started the following protocols.
MASKING
Masking is mandatory for anyone working or visiting on Birch Street. Surgical masks are required over your nose and mouth for the duration of your visit – including in the Resident's room. If you notice someone is wearing their mask improperly, please, give them a friendly reminder. Masks must pinch on top of your nose – not below the nose.
DISTANCE
Birch Residents are to remain on the unit until further notice. This means not leaving the unit to visit another Resident [palliative exceptions only]. If a Resident must leave the unit, ensure they wear a blue medical mask and practice diligent hand hygiene.
VISITING
If you're an Essential Caregiver [ECG] or support worker visiting a Resident with a suspected infection, N-95 masks, gowns and eye protection are required. If possible, consider postponing your visit to these areas due to the potential risk of acquiring an illness.
We also urge you to continue to be cautious in public settings. Practice good hand hygiene and stay home if you’re not feeling well.
Before coming, preview the self-screening guidelines and new Public Health PPE donning and doffing info pages and reconsider your plans if you have any symptoms. We will keep you updated on any further developments or changes.
